Palm Beach International Dragway -Memorial Classic Car Show and Nostalgia Drag Race

We are proud to announce that on November 9, 2008 while most northern drag strips are closed for the winter season a South Florida Drag Strip will be hosting a new kind of event, the brain storm of Harry La Platte with Creative Event Concepts http://www.creativeeventconcepts.com

This show is expected to appeal to a number of Motor Sports enthusiasts; it will be hosted by Palm Beach International Raceway http://www.racepbir.com who is offering discounted pre-registration fees for both cars and crew members. 

This car show will consist of four shows in one event which are as follows: 

Memorial Classic Car Show organized by Donnie Hancock with South East Rods and Customs http://www.serodsncustoms.com.

The Grand Marshal of this event has been named John Dianna, the Owner of Buckaroo Communications http://www.buckaroocommunications.com.

This show should prove to have a number of famous show quality classic cars for display and in competition to be awarded the best in it’s class. This show also offers recognition for a runner-up in all classes.  

The winning vehicles will be presented their awards on the starting line of the drag strip just before the drag race finals.

Inaugural Nostalgia Drag Race with Special Guest Joe Mondello http://www.mondello.com who will be appearing with his famous car, the “VO Twister.” 

Also guest appearing, the Southern Slingshots http://www.southernslingshots.com will be in attendance with their front engine dragsters and Altered's.

Drag race entries will include two categories, Nostalgia I which permits electronics and Nostalgia II non-electronic; these vehicles include cars up to the year of 1978.

Summer of ’64 Reunion from Island Dragway with Special Guest “Big Daddy” Don Garlits http://www.garlits.com who will be appearing with his famous car the “Swamp Rat VI” in remembrance of the day the 200 MPH record was set at Island Dragway in Great Meadows, New Jersey. 

Palm Beach International Raceway welcomes any person who attended on that day when the world record was set and encourages you to attend this reunion.

To register your car as one who attended that race, please submit the following Pre-Registration Form.

Factory Race Cars, 10 Years of Greatness a car show consisting of only legitimate factory race cars from 1960 to 1970; clones and tributes will be accepted if close to period correct. These vehicles will be on display with police guarded spaces 8 feet apart to insure reduced risk of damage and for optimal viewing.

These factory race cars whether it is Pontiac, Ford, Plymouth, Dodge, Chevy or AMC will be a welcome addition to the already spectacular line up which is in the works. 


It is expected that the one owner 1964 Plymouth Hemi Savoy by the name of Satellite will be unveiled and put on display; this car has not been seen by the public since 1966. 

Palm Beach International Raceway is not requiring that any factory race car be running or in pristine condition for you to show your vehicle, this show is in honor of the factory race cars of the day and if you own one of these rare finds, please register to show your vehicle at this very important event.

Palm Beach International Raceway's Book Authors Tent: The Book Authors Tent will be occupied by Charles Morris, author of Factory Lightweights, where the book will be offered for sale and autograph.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank Car Tech Books http://www.cartechbooks.com for their assistance in making contact with Charles Morris.

Tent Rental: To inquire about tent rental at the event, please review the Tent Rental Price List and email your selection to George Alan Case in an effort to begin the reservation process.

Event Poster: LSP MotorSports, Inc. http://www.LSPMotorSports.net has commissioned the talented artist, David Chappel, http://www.autoart.com to design the event poster; the event poster will be presented to special guests and the remainder will be auctioned off for charity. 

Other Special Guests: Additional special guests will be announced as the event planning is still in progress. We will continue to explore all leads and pursue additional race car legends as participants; please feel free to contact George Alan Case to express an interest in attending this event as a participant.

Other Event Ideas in Progress: There are also plans in the works for participants who attend from outside of the state of Florida the possibility of winning an unnamed number of $1,000.00 gasoline gift cards and for those who attend from within the state of Florida the possibility of winning an unnamed number of $200.00 gasoline gift cards. We are seeking both event sponsors and donations are being collected for this and other fresh ideas for this event so if you would like to contribute please contact George Alan Case with Moroso Motorsports Park.

Recent Exciting News About the Facilities: This event will take place at the newly constructed facility which include a brand new concrete drag strip along with many other upgrades and improvements. The new drag strip is presently under the management of George Alan Case, VP of Drag Racing Operations formerly from the north east, division one. 

In Closing: Harry La Platte who is also titled Palm Beach International Raceway's Swap Meet Manager and Nostalgia Event Promoter; during the preliminary planning stages of this event he made contact with Ray with Cruisin Style Magazine during the month of February and Ray has been on board for this new event concept since day one. Ray is a true asset to the nostalgia community, we would also like to take this opportunity to thank him for his support.
